Fourth email

Dec. 19, 2016
Well, last week was a blast. On Tuesday Elder Holland came and spoke to the missionaries for the devotional! Two apostles, and a member of the seventy in four weeks! That’s flippin’ cool as heck. He gave a wonderful talk about being a missionary and about Joseph Smith. He “threatened” us (in his words he said he’s not threatening) saying he’d choke us if we came home early. He’s such an inspiration to us missionaries, lots of my district in the MTC said that the moment they saw Elder Holland all their worries went away. Lots of us were worried about the plane ride and our missions, but when Elder Holland came in, they said they were at peace with themselves.
So about Wednesday… I didn’t sleep the night prior because I had to be up and ready and at the flight office at 3:30 AM. So I was tired, I was worried that I would miss my alarm. That kind of sucked… long night, not being able to sleep, and the plane ride was the most uncomfortable ride I have ever been on. Those seats allow for no room to be comfortable. I slept for maybe an hourish tops on the ride. The screen in front of my face was tempting me to watch a movie, I didn’t so stop gaspin. Mom, Dad, come get me in a year and 11 months please, no more plane riding for me! :).
My stay in the mission home was embarrassing, because I got no sleep I fell asleep during a presentation. Apparently I was completely out for 10 minutes, and when they tried to wake me up i wasn’t responding. The mission president was understanding though. When I finally woke up it was my turn to go in for an interview. Still a little wobbly, I was able to understand what Him and Sister Loveland said and asked, and the interview went fantastic. I learned though, that I was the only person in my group of 9 (2 sisters and 7 elders) to go to the Tulsa East area. Right now I am in Henryetta, Oklahoma, I can never remember my address, my parents have the address so if you wish to send something please, by all means send something ūüėä.
So far, the area is creepy. Lots of old houses, some even beaten in by the weather (I hope). The area has been tracked out pretty well. Any time I go to a house, they look at me and my companion and say something like “your kind has already been here before, and were not interested”. So we usually just wait for referrals, or for someone in the ward to go with us to teach someone. That hasn’t happened yet though. I am going tomorrow with the ward mission leader to teach two peoples. Oh, also we were able to get into one ladies house and teach her. I gave her a Book of Mormon and she said she would read it, were planning on going back tomorrow and see if she has or hasn’t! That was my first Book of Mormon I have given out, it’s the one that I got from the visitor center in St. George.
So a little bit of FYI, I am leaving this area in either a week and a half or two and a half. The Tulsa East mission is being taken out of the Bentonville Arkansas mission and being added to the Oklahoma mission (forgot the city). So if you want to send something, send it before this Sunday, or send it to the mission office (parents have the address, I keep forgetting).
So, my companion… His name is Elder Thurgood, he leaves in about 7 months, weighs 230ish pounds, is about 5 foot 10. He’s pretty lazy, but so am I so we got something in common. Doesn’t like riding his bike in the cold, so we walk everywhere. Oh, and about that, we don’t have a car, even though everyone that we want to teach is on the other side of our area’s boundaries. Even by bike it would be a 45 minute bike ride, and in this weather of humidity and coldness, we would be froze stiff. It was 8 degrees yesterday (I feel so sorry for those in Canada) we were told to stay in our apartments it was so cold. On Saturday it started to rain sleet. And were told to go into our apartments at around 5ish I believe.
So that’s my update, email me if you have any questions or concerns and I’ll be able to email next Monday! can’t stay long here in the library! I love and miss you all at home! (I miss St. George so much¬†ūüė≠)

Arrival in Arkansas

Dec. 14, 2016

Elder White has arrived in Arkansas. He call us at 5:30 am from the SLC airport. He told us that he had to fly to Alabama. Then take a tiny plane to Arkansas. His luggage will be shipped to Arkansas. He has only what he could carry on the plane.

The scripture in Luke 12:

22  ¶And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

23  The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

24  Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?

25  And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?

26  If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?

27  Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

28  If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?

29  And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.

30  For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

31  ¶But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

32  Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

33  Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

34  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

How true this scripture is!! I am thankful for a loving Heavenly Father for watching out for my son.

Here is the Letter from President and Sister Loveland:

14 December 2016

Dear Brother and Sister White,

Sister¬†Loveland and I¬†wanted to take a minute and let you know that your missionary, Elder Travis Chandler White,¬†arrived in¬†Bentonville in good shape and in excellent spirits. This area is very blessed to have members who have taken seriously President Monson’s challenge to be actively involved in offering others the opportunity to partake of the blessings that the gospel affords. ¬†We have a great opportunity and responsibility to keep the trust of the members as well as the Lord.

What a thrill it is to get acquainted with him and to welcome him into the Arkansas Bentonville Mission. After completing routine details and having an interview, we conducted training about matters pertaining to his faithful service as a missionary.  It is our desire to do everything possible to offer leadership and support as he becomes the missionary the Lord expects him to be. Foremost in our efforts will be to insure the safety and well-being of your missionary.  Beyond that we will do all we can to help him to meet his potential.  We would like to tell you what an honor it is to care for your missionary.

As you pray for your missionary, pray for us to know how best to lead and guide your missionary. Please write your missionary positive emails that encourage obedience, effective study, hard work, and complete devotion to God.  We know that you will be blessed through the service of your missionary and that your testimony will be strengthened as his testimony grows in the gospel.

If there is anything we can do to be of greater assistance to your missionary, please feel free to write or call. We want your missionary to have the finest experience possible. A happy missionary is a good missionary. We find they are most happy when all is well at home, when they feel your love and support, and when they receive a letter from family each week. It has been our experience that you will get the most information by letting them write you a letter or asking them questions they can answer, rather than trying to be on the email at the same time as them.  We discourage trying to message back and forth to your missionary on preparation day.

May the choicest blessings of the Lord always abide with you.

Much Love,

President Kevin H Loveland and Sister Ann H. Loveland Arkansas Bentonville Mission

WEEK 3!! WOW!!

Well, hello!

Seems like forever since the last time I emailed. Feels like a week, weird right? ūüôā
So I am doing fantastic. Besides this cold that won’t leave my body right now, I’m doing awesome. My testimony is growing everyday that I am here, I have better TRC’s, and I have better TRC’s! Exciting I know!
My TRC’s are fantastic! They do everything that ed¬†them, and two of them are committing to baptism! Now, I don’t think they are real investigators so no actual baptisms will take place, but let’s pretend there will be so I feel better about myself :P.
The first TRC is Lance Beasly. Unfortunately I was only able to meet with him once, since the last two times failed, because he was having internet problems! So we got a new TRC person to take his place, and her name is Rachel Gottferdson. We have only met with her once and we’ll only get one more visit, but it was interesting teaching someone on the spot. We didn’t have time to plan for her lesson at all because it came outta no where! but we did a pretty good job i’d say!
Next TRC is Paula North, she is one of the two that we committed to baptism and she is AMAZING! She is super interested in the church, and doesn’t disagree with anything that we have taught her, or at least she says. She wasn’t hesitant about committing to baptism at all, so I took that as a good sign! It makes me feel really good to know that even though this is all pretend in the long run, I am improving on my teaching with the spirit. It was really hard at first because I was teaching through my words and not the spirits!
And my last TRC person is Kaelin Holdaway. She listens so carefully about the church (because she wasn’t a part of any other religion before) and finds it fascinating! She doesn’t talk too much, but she has questions at least so it doesn’t make us meeting with her hard.
So anyways, how is everyone doing? My mum gave me a bit of a rundown about grandma and grandpa white’s house, and I’m sorry to hear about that! I will keep you two in my prayers while I am out here and have faith that it will get cleaned up fast! Other than that though, I don’t know much about home, life, and ¬†people, please let me know! I am super curious about everyone, I been gone for 3 weeks now so SOMETHING has to be different about everyone. Right?
Well, that’s all I really got, nothing much happens at the MTC besides nothing sooo…. yaaa. ūüôā
I hope everyone is doing well! Also Thanks for the letter that you sent Grandma and Grandpa! I will be sending one to you and Mark soon! I love everyone so much and miss all of ya’lls!
I’ll see you in Two!
Elder White
(Mommy Moment: He isn’t even in the field of Arkansas yet but he sure is getting the”ya’lls”down!! Pfftt!! Miss that kid.)

Second email of my two year mission

Hello everyone!

This week went a lot better than the last one I believe. Everyone in my district are getting along rather well, we are learning a lot, and no one hates each other. I like the last part the most.
I’m starting to feel more comfortable speaking to my “P.I.s” (progressing investigators). They are my teachers that act like an investigator they knew. I’m relying on the spirit to help me to say the right things, my companion is feeling more confident when he talks, and we’re getting better at teaching as a team. Our TRCs are impossible to satisfy it seems… I’m not sure what TRC stands for, but they are basically a hired investigator that is already apart of the church. Meaning they are just practice for us. yay.
Our first TRC is Ian Jemenez. He’s interested in eternal families and wants to learn more about that, but our problem with that is he needs to be apart of the church to be able to use that ordinance, but he doesn’t want to get baptized… I realize that I’m not doing something right if after three visits he doesn’t want to be baptized. I have prayed about it, talked with my companion to figure something out, and nothing is coming to us.
Our second TRC is Katie Lee. Now she is the frustrating one. She is the investigator that agrees with everything we say, says she understands it, and then has no questions. Why is this frustrating? Because we don’t feel like she is actually learning anything. I think we figured her out though. We think we should ask her to explain what we have taught her in her own words to see if she is actually understanding what we are saying. We will see how that will go.
Here is a picture of my district. The person that is standing on the fountain to the left is Elder Rose, and the other person next to him is Elder Morely. Starting from the farthest left in the middle is Elder Hartman, the Elder Niemann (pronounced kneemen), then Elder Norris, Elder Westover, My companion Elder Powell, the ME. I promise my eyes aren’t closed in the picture. It may look like it, but it’s just the shadow that was over my eyes because the sun was in the wrong position. Now the Sisters. From the farthest left it goes: Sister Robinson, Sister Christensen, Sister Raine, and then Sister Heaton.
That is my district! (also if the picture doesn’t work for some reason let me know and I’ll resend it! that or I’ll send it to my mom and she’ll put it on my blog or something.)
I am still a little sick from¬†Sunday, I’ve had a cold since then. I’ve just been keeping warm, and praying to get better soon, because this sucks!
Love you all! thanks for all the B-day emails! I have read them all! I’ll try to reply to those that sent me and emails from Monday!
I’ll see you in Two!

First email of my two year mission

Hello everyone!

So far the MTC is pretty awesome. I have met a lot of awesome elders and sisters and have made friends with them. I’ve only had a problem with one sister so far, which is nice because I hate dealing with stupids. She’s also in my district… so it’s the worst. She can be cool at times, but most of the time she’s not. Oh well, God gives us trials and this could be one!

Anyway, lets talk about the food. It’s mediocre at best. Lots of the Elders in my room complain of stomach aches almost every day. So far though I have been feeling ok, no bad reactions from the food for me! Also the thanksgiving lunch was ok. Ya, it was a lunch and not a dinner… I was upset. But I am still great full for the food I was provided. After the lunch we watched Ephram’s Rescue, which was one of the best LDS films I have ever seen! If any of you haven’t watched it please do, you will learn a lot about the church from back then. It’s amazing seeing the main character “Ephram” do the work he did! It really made me want to be more like Christ and to be “worthy when the time comes”. Super inspirational!

Also, during my MTC stay, I can read anyone’s emails anytime I want, I just can’t reply till P day. Today is Friday, but my P day is usually on Thursday. Since it was thanksgiving they moved this weeks P day to today, but every other week it will be on Friday. I am not sure what my P day will be after the MTC, ¬†it I will let everyone know!

If any of you know someone that would like to get an email instead of going to my blog, send me their email and I’ll put them into the list! The blog is this one:¬†

Whoa, that’s a huge link. On my screen it’s big, I don’t know what it will look like on yours. If that link doesn’t work, ask my mom for it!
So a little bit more information about my district, there are twelve of us in total. 8 Elders and 4 Sisters. I absolutely love everyone, even the one sister that bugs me, and they are gonna be great friends while I’m here. My companions name is Skyler Powell, he’s an interesting fellow, and he seems like he has confidence issues when he speaks to investigators. Even though when we talk we can talk for a long time about anything, I know he is worthy to hold the spirit, because I have felt it and his testimony is super strong! I’m guessing he’s just shy to new people, that’s how it was the first few days with us.
For the next companionship comes Elder Norris and Elder Westover. They are the funniest people I have ever met in a long time. Elder Norris is constantly making me laugh, although at night, his snoring is super loud. Imagine a 275 weighing man with the a snore that changes tone every 5 minutes. He keeps me up sometimes, but what am I going to do? Not like I’m gonna put a pillow over his head… ;). Both are awesome people, strong testimonies, love them both.
Next is Elder Morley and Elder Hartman. These two are compassionate and funny as well. They both have strong testimonies on the Atonement, which makes them really in tune with the spirit. They are the two I would talk to if I needed help with something. These two also don’t keep me up all night, so that’s a plus!
Next is Elder Niemann and Elder Rose. Elder Niemann is our District Leader. He is the one that keeps us on task when we are studying, which I appreciate a lot. Both are very strong with the church. Elder Rose is a very cool person to be around, we had to be in a trio companionship for the first day because his companion was running late. Both are amazing.
Next is Sister Robinson and Sister Christensen. Sister Christensen is very energetic, but when it comes to studying, she needs the room to be quiet… she is definitely interesting. Sister Robinson is more calming, but is still really energetic. She is the type of person I would trust with secrets. If that makes sense to you guys!
Next is Sister Raine and Sister Heaton. Sister Raine is the Sister I had problems with. I won’t go into detail since I did earlier in the email. Sister Heaton on the other hand is awesome. She is cool to be around, we were doing a role play where I was the investigator and she was the missionary, Raine was apart of it too, they were both missionaries, but whatever about her ;). Just kidding. When they both bore their testimonies at the end of the lesson, they were both amazing, I could just feel the spirit in them, and it was awesome. They will be very successful in the field!
So that is my email! Email me if you have questions, for I will have all day to answer them! I’m going to the temple at 12:30 and I’ll probably be done by 3ish, depending on what the district wants to do. Expect answers from now till 12, then from 4 or 5 to 10! So get to emailing please!
I love you all and I’ll see you in Two!

Hey parents :)

November 18, 2016

Hey mom, hey dad

Soooooo… the MTC isn’t too bad. It’s quite stressful, but I’ve been told that the next week won’t be so cluttered. Also, I am not really ready for a set schedule for everything… Yes, I know what you guys would say to me at this point “well you should have started before your mission”. Well you know what I say to that? uh, never mind… I can’t say what I want to, since you don’t like the “F word” ūüôā (freakin’)
haha, anyway, I was told that I need to email my parents (dad that first one didn’t count ūüôā ) and basically tell them that I am OK and you have nothing to worry about. I absolutely love my district and companion. They are all hilarious and I don’t feel lonely!
I love you all! and¬†I’ll see you in Two!
